If you don't do what you know is right, it is sin!

I know, there are so many reasons not to do what is right! You know, we have to think of the repercussions on our families and our way of living! And what will my boss say if I do what is right? I can lose my job. People may laugh at me!

There are so many occasions, almost on a daily basis where we could be doing what is right. You can stand up for the weak, the homeless, the widows, the aged, and more. But, do you?

You know that it is right to stand against racism, don't you? You know that it is right to feed the hungry, don't you? The question is, Why don't you?

You can sit there and think about all the right things to do, but then you also have to ponder why you don't!

James 4:17 tells us:
So whoever knows the right thing to do and fails to do it, for him it is sin.
This is serious business. Are you taking this seriously? We all know, or at least should know, that sexual immorality, impurity, sensuality, idolatry, sorcery, enmity, strife, jealousy, fits of anger, rivalries, dissensions, divisions, envy, drunkenness, orgies, adultery, homosexuality, and the like are sins.

James here flips the coin to the other side. It is not just, "Don't do that!" He also says, "If you don't do this, it is sin!"

Let me ask you this, Do you know that it is the right thing to do, to stand against abortion, to protect the lives of unborn children? You do? Then what are you doing to stand up for the most vulnerable in our society? Have you ever gone to stand on a street corner with like minded individuals, holding a poster that portrays the horrors of abortion? Oh, I am sorry, you have your shopping to do, and you really cannot miss that latest movie! Can you really say that your excuses not to stand against abortion, are even remotely more important than defending the lives of those innocent children that are being murdered on a daily basis.
(22)  But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves.  (23)  For if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man who looks intently at his natural face in a mirror.  (24)  For he looks at himself and goes away and at once forgets what he was like.  (25)  But the one who looks into the perfect law, the law of liberty, and perseveres, being no hearer who forgets but a doer who acts, he will be blessed in his doing.  (26)  If anyone thinks he is religious and does not bridle his tongue but deceives his heart, this person's religion is worthless.  (27)  Religion that is pure and undefiled before God, the Father, is this: to visit orphans and widows in their affliction, and to keep oneself unstained from the world. (James 1:22-27)
You can start doing something against abortion. If you are in South Africa, you can contact groups such as BCN, Abort97 and ACA.

Be a doer of the word, not just a hearer!
